Eventually, we ran out of touristy things to do at the top of the Sydney Tower Eye , so we packed it in and headed back to the Galeries to have
dinner. As he had predicted earlier in the day, Wes and I would indeed
be eating at Hotaru one day.
We just didn't expect it to be so soon!
Sushi Hotaru is a sushi restaurant (obviously!) in the Galeries Victoria which has both booths and a sushi train. We chose to eat at the train, because I've never been to one before. Now, I think I'll have a hard time eating sushi any other way. The food was both inexpensive and amazingly fresh. Everything tasted great! It was also a lot of fun to watch the sushi chefs at work.

So. Many. Options! And only $3 a plate, at that! |
Salmon roll with bit of avocado and tobiko on top (roe). |
One of the chefs hard at work. I believe he was making tempura chicken rolls?
The machine to the left was really awesome. It puts the rice onto the nori (seaweed)
in one even layer so they don't have to do it themselves! Speeds the process up
really well. They were very efficient. |

Wes + Lines + Pixelated Shirt = So Post-modernism |
Tobiko only! |
An eel roll, with cucumber and cream cheese. |
Jellyfish roll of some sort. |
Paid about $8 for the special, gold plate sashimi |
... but it looked more like this when we started. There was quite a bit of salmon
on the plate before we destroyed it. |
Showtime! Grilling up the salmon. |
... mmmmn. Tasty fire. |
This machine is amazing. It spreads rice over the nori
so that the chefs don't have to do it themselves! |
Very efficient. |
"Mine!" |
The salmon we watched them grill. |
Almost done, the havoc we left behind. |
Another type of roll, with tempura soft-shell crab. Really, really good. |
The machine in action! |
Half an eel for the unagi. Yum. |
The train goes aaaaaaaall the way down and back again. |
Very clearly, we had a really good meal and a really good time. The restaurant was actually not very expensive at all, and very delicious. The quality of the fish was very fresh and tasty, and we enjoyed ourselves quite a lot watching the sushi chefs at work.
We're actually going back on Monday with Wes' friend Pete for another get together dinner! Should be loads of fun!
