Happy Birthday Tori! (with a buttload of birds)

One of Wes' friends recently celebrated her birthday, so we headed down to her place to join in on the festivities. We brought booze and a camera and documented the resulting insanity and consequent joviality.

Apparently, mixing strange foods together is an Australian party tradition.

Though a lot of the guests passed in and out, we stayed through the afternoon and evening, enjoying drinks, stories, a sausage sizzle and a slew of silly antics. Since the photos really speak for themselves, there won't be a lot of commentary in today's post.

Tori's friend Michelle spilled her champagne...

... she just solved the problem by pouring another cupful!

While we were all sitting on the back porch, enjoying munchies and the late spring warmth, a couple of rosellas and lories showed up in the trees of Tori's back yard. She asked if anyone would like to try feeding them and of course I jumped to the task.

Yummm... seeds.

I eventually coaxed him onto my hand.
I so look like a crazy bird lady. Blech. That hair.

When some of the other girls saw what I had done, they decided to give it a try. This kept Michelle and Shelley both busy for hours on end while the birds were still around. At one point, they were both standing in the yard with arms upraised and seed in both palms, trying to lure the birds right out of the trees.

They didn't do half bad at that, by the way.

Yeeeeeah. Check it out.

Playing hot rosella?

So dramatic!

This one didn't want anything to do with anyone for quite a while.
Shelley really had to convince him to come play with her.

The perfect accessory to a fresh manicure.

Eventually, it got too dark for the birds to linger and they headed home for the evening. This didn't put a damper on the party, however. If anything, people got even more lifely as the night progressed. There were more drinks, more food and a few funny faces in photos.

The birthday girl herself!

Blue lollipops. They did horrible things to your tongue.

Not quite as horrible as what this Passion Pop
did to my tongue, though. That stuff is awful,
and they made me drink a whole glass!

Eventually, the sausages got sizzlin'.

And Wes dug right in.

I don't remember what this was all about...

Group photo!

... and luring the birds.

After a very entertaining evening, Wes and I drove Tori's friend and cousin (Julia and Nick respectively) to the train station in Sutherland before we headed home. The drive was filled with light-hearted argument and party talk and actually a nice end to the evening.
